A WORD FROM THE AUTHOR

Bruce wrote most of this story behind jail bars.  It is his running account of a desperate fight to regain his freedom. The book is a compilation of his daily notes that he recorded on yellow pads while behind bars.

2006 – Present

  • Member of the American Bar Association, Virginia State and Loudoun County Bar Associations
  • Active general private practice of law, in the key litigation practice areas of Criminal/Traffic, Business Transactions, Personal Injury/Wrongful Death, and Family Law.
  • Successfully litigated child abuse court cases and CPS administrative hearings with respect to sexual allegations in divorce (SAID) and parental alienation syndrome (PAS) issues, with an emphasis on child suggestibility and memory source contamination.
  • Successfully defended criminal cases, such as murder, rape, malicious wounding, child pornography, robbery/larceny, and drug and alcohol offenses, many resulting in either evidence suppression, acquittal or reduced charges in many of these cases.
  • Successfully represented many drug distribution and possession cases, to include heroin, PCP, K2, amphetamines, crystal meth, and marijuana, resulting in either evidence suppression, acquittal or reduced charges in many of these cases.
  • Successfully litigated many family law cases in the local courts, to include divorce, adoption, custody and visitation, child and spousal support, and property issues.
  • Successfully litigated or settled more than 50 personal injury cases, some exceeding $1 million dollars in awards.

(Before My Incarceration)

 

1980 – 1998

  • As a JAG Military Lawyer with the U.S. Army, I was both a prosecutor and defense attorney, international relations legal assistant, and an administrative lawyer with the US Army 5th Corps in Frankfurt, Germany.
  • International consultant in the art of negotiations and alternate dispute resolution areas involving mediation, conciliation, and arbitration techniques.
  • Co-developed the Lincoln Management Institute to teach small businesses worldwide how to run a business without a staff lawyer, focusing on negotiations, contracts, business organization, employer/employee law, government regulations, intellectual property, collecting money, and dispute resolution.
  • Worked as an assistant to the general counsel for two software engineering companies, advising the companies concerning government and commercial contracting matters, government regulations, subcontracting, and software licensing issues.
  • Handled litigation for the U.S. Army 7th Signal Command as their chief litigation counsel for bid protest and contract defense for this communications command worldwide.
  • Performed litigation services for the U.S. Air Force Contracts Litigation Division as a contracts trial attorney defending the U.S. Air Force against claims brought by multi-national aerospace corporations.
  • Worked for three Fortune 100 government contracting companies, Honeywell, Boeing and TRW, as a contract administrator, negotiating and administering multi-million dollar federal contracts.
